What is rapé?
While rapé is often made of several Amazonian plants,
Ashes from sacred trees are added to the rapé as an alkaliser which balances and then in personal recipes people may add whatever plants they want to get specific desired effects. Seeds like wilka may be added to increase the visionary properties of the rapé, or flowers might be added to instill a more feminine and nurturing energy. The appearance of a Rapé is a grey- to sand coloured, very fine and dry dust.
How it is made
The rapé is made during a lengthy and intensive ritual process to invoke the maker’s medicine and the spirits of the plants used. Making the rapé is an extremely long and labour intensive process. Shamans spend hours praying, singing, rattling and setting intentions into the rapé as it is being prepared. For this reason we treat it as an extremely sacred medicine. Indians see taking rapé as a form of prayer to mother nature. As with other sacred plants it is good to set an intention before working with rapé. Just as the Indians pray, you can connect with the spirit of the plants and ask them questions.
